If chocolate is your vice then The Choc Pot’s for you. Power couple Ash and Deirdre have taken the plunge and are dipping into all things chocolate, serving up home made desserts with quality wholesome ingredients. You can experience things like callebaut chocolate in their molten choc pot (worth selling your soul for) home made waffles, home made marsh mellows, deliciously mouthwatering salted caramel hot chocolate or a red velvet one if you fancy. You can also expect to see cold drinks served with a twist. Mmmm… make that everything else that’s on the menu. Crowds are already coming far and wide and making the pilgrimage to The Choc Pot home in Burwood. With their star quickly on the rise, I can only predict a bigger and bigger future for 2014.
First up is the chocolate souffle with salted caramel ($12). When I touch the surface, it springs back until it finally gives. The soft centre erupts at me (unusual for a souffle) and visually it is quite the sight. To taste it, is outstanding. Made even more magnificent with the salted caramel by its side.
The mere sight of the molten choc pot ($12) makes me gush with fervour. It is positively dripping with the stuff and poking at it makes it drip some more. To watch it and to taste it, is absolutely mesmeric. It has a firm outset with a liquid lava filling secretly bubbling away underneath, all made possible with those ingenious ceramic pots. You can check it out here – live in action.
I’m torn between topping my waffles with strawberries or marsh mellows, so I take up both options ($14). I think going half and half is the way to go as you can experience 2 for the price of 1 and the flavours don’t become too sickly.
Ash makes these marsh mellows from scratch. That’s right. Scratch. Then slather that baby right up with some hot Belgium chocolate and sit that over some crunchy hot waffles. It is un-bloodly-believable. The topping of strawberries is just as good. They’re oh so scrummy and quite possibly the best strawberries I’ve had in my life. Hands down.
Hot belgium chocolate is hard to miss on its own but then give it a twist of red velvet or salted caramel, it becomes a must. The red velvet is silky smooth and tastes just like liquid cake. It even has their version of cream cheese and whipped cream on top, shown sinking away in my pic. My girlfriend takes on the soy ($0.70) salted caramel hot chocolate ($5.50). They use the good soy (bon soy) that even I can drink it and the flavour combination of the two is magnificent.
If you’re after a chocolate fix that is a cut above the rest. You had better sink your way to The Choc Pot. Toot sweet.
Food Porn Nation dined as a guest of The Choc Pot. I would like to thank Deirdre and Ash for hosting me as their guest. Please note all opinions are my own.
